Product Description
Exchange Server provides messaging and collaboration for small and large companies. Exchange Server 2003 runs on top of Windows Server 2000 or Windows Server 2003 and provides e-mail and other forms of interactive communication. There are many ways to access information including Outlook, Web Mail, and POP3. One of the most important features of Exchange Server is that it will allow people to share calendars, contacts, e-mail, and everything else you use in Outlook. Mobile users of Outlook 2000 and up can benfit from offline folders which provide Outlook/Exchange information when users are not connected. Changes on the server and client are synchronized once an internet or local area connection is available.
Successful organizations use Exchange 2003 Server to provide a centralized, shareable workplace with superior reliability, scalability, and performance, and with lower cost of ownership. Innovative new technology, such as Active Sync, Web Storage System, and Outlook HTTP access combine the reliability and dependability of Exchange Server with the openness and accessibility of the Web. Never before has there been a more complete solution for Web-based collaboration, messaging and applications.
Exchange Server 2003 requires a computer running Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server. Standard licensing requires one "server" license per server and one "client access license" for each user. "Exchange Server, Processor License" provides licensing for an unlimited number of users on the one server.
The Exhange Server stores all information and makes for centralized management, accounting, and backup of all users e-mail and Outlook information. Many options for receiving and delivering e-mail are available. Exchange can be the primary server for sending and receiving internet mail, or it can be configured to send and collect mail from 3rd party services, usually your ISP or Web Host's mail servers. Typical client access is through Outlook, HTTP (web mail server), POP3/SMTP, and Activesync for mobile devices.
